1. Is there lye in our products?
Chemistry can be fun if you know how it works. Yes, we use lye. It is a necessary ingredient in the soap making process. You take the fatty acids which are oils and butters and combine them with your alkaline solution - lye and water. When you mix them together they combine and saponify. Saponification is the making of soap. The bars of soap are then ready to "cure", which takes approximately 3-6 weeks. When the bars are cured, the lye is no longer present in the finished product. Instead, soap and glycerin replace the lye. Essentially, you combine an acid and an alkaline to create a neutral product.
Unfortunately, lye has gotten a bad reputation in soap making from our ancestors. They did not have the necessary knowledge or tools to measure the exact amount of lye needed to make a neutral bar of soap; therefore, they ended up with a bar that was very harsh. Today, we have both the knowledge and the correct tools to make a perfect, balanced bar every time. We also have at our disposal a wide selection of oils and butters that make our soaps more moisturizing and gentle.

2. What do you mean when you say this is a natural product?
Today the word "natural" is often left wide open to personal interpretation. To us, it means that we use only pure products taken from nature. We do not use any harsh chemicals, synthetic scents, colors or preservatives. We use unaltered, undiluted oils and organic products whenever possible.

3. Can I use your soap if I have sensitive skin?
Yes! Our soaps are mild and gentle bars. We cannot, however, give you a guarantee that your sensitive skin will not become irritated by something in the soap. Some people are more sensitive to natural things, such as, honey, beeswax or certain types of oils. However, I do know that most people have reactions to products which contain harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrances or colors. I CAN guarantee that you will not find any of those things in our soaps. Also, all bars of soap are carefully labeled in simple terms so you know exactly what you are using.
